Samiksha Foundation Scholarships Program
2020 mission statement
Over the last few years, with an awareness of both the need for continued education and non-medical support for children undergoing cancer treatment in recognition of our success, and in line with the mission of the Foundation, we continue to explore the theme ‘Looking Ahead’ as part of our growth strategy in 2020.
We are now into our 12th year, providing integrated educational support for children undergoing cancer treatment at the Kidwai Cancer Institute and the Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre, Narayana Hrudalaya.
Origin
Two years ago, 15-year-old Jayanth Singh was not allowed to rejoin his old school in 9th Grade because of his grades in Math, a result of disturbance due to cancer remission and financial need. Samiksha helped facilitate his admission into MEC School and thus the continuation of his education. This highlighted the need for financial support for these surviving, thriving students, who continue to pursue their learning post-cancer with zest and rigour.
Selection criteria
The criteria for selection of the student awardees are:
- The child went through cancer treatment.
- They were part of a Samiksha Learning Program or recommended by the Oncologists at one of our Learning Centres.
- They show evidence of actively pursuing higher education, into college.
