Appeal for Funds for The Samiksha Scholarships Program - Series 5 for 65 deserving students
Samiksha Foundation Appeal for 2021
Samiksha Foundation - Caring for Children with Cancer Trust provides a creative learning platform for children with cancer, designed to focus on the integrated education of children in life-limiting situations such as cancer. Our main mission is to impart formal education to the children while they undergo medical treatment, ensuring they do not miss school and that we increase their happiness quotient.
From 11 years of experience running such education programs in hospital wards, we know that this enables the children to go back to mainstream life with hope, confidence, pride and dignity in spite of their situation. We have positively impacted over 7500 children during this time. The Samiksha Learning Centres, run so far at paediatric oncology wards, encourage curiosity, creativity, and analytical thinking, while imparting holistic education that includes yoga/meditation, creative visualization, and creative activities. The program is tailored specially for each child, focussing on bringing out their individuality and meeting their specific needs.
Samiksha 2.0 is an important next step in childhood cancer care, hastened during the pandemic period. This is a technology-based remote teaching and learning initiative that aims to enhance the formal education of children with cancer even when at home, using beneficial technology tools and teaching methods being developed and adapted by our team. For this project, we are creating a digital education platform for our students in collaboration with our technology partners USky, and supplying tablet devices for our students and alumni to access these resources. In 2020, our volunteers have raised funds for the first trial of 45 tablets. These will be distributed both to children in the hospitals for online tutoring and to remote students and Samiksha alumni preparing for their board exams from home, ensuring their studies are uninterrupted from early January 2021. The goal of this program is to reach 300 children in 2021.
Samiksha Scholarship program - 5th Series
Launched in March 2018, the Samiksha Scholarships Program provides financial support to young cancer survivors who are keen and committed to their continued education. Since 2018, we have distributed 165 scholarships of Rs. 10,000 each. To be eligible, each student:
- should have gone through cancer treatment
- should preferably have been part of the Samiksha learning program
- should be actively pursuing secondary or higher education at school or college
Samiksha Foundation intends to continue this program, now in its fifth instalment, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. This year, 65 deserving children have been identified from our teachers’ shortlist of 93, and will receive their scholarships and learning devices by March 2021. Of which 18 are new beneficiaries of the Fund.
Appeal for funds
We seek support to make Samiksha 2.0 sustainable for such children, who are doubly compromised due to cancer and the risk of COVID-19. Any donation will help ensure continuity of education for these children despite these health challenges.
